Overview

About Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy focuses on how your body moves and functions. A physiotherapist looks at your joints, muscles, strength, flexibility and movement habits to understand what may be contributing to discomfort or limited mobility.

Physiotherapy here is a partnership. We explain what we find in clear language, agree on goals together and build a plan that fits your routine, whether you are recovering from an injury, managing a longstanding concern or getting ready to return to sport or work.

What physiotherapy may involve

Every plan is individual. After your assessment, physiotherapy may focus on one or several of these areas, always with the aim of helping you return to work, sport and everyday life with confidence.

  • Injury rehabilitation, including sprains, strains and sports injuries
  • Musculoskeletal concerns of the neck, back and shoulder
  • Knee and hip concerns
  • Post surgical rehabilitation, following your surgical team’s guidance
  • Mobility, range of motion and functional movement
  • Balance, strength and conditioning
  • Manual therapy and exercise therapy
  • Education to help you understand and manage your concern
  • Planning your return to work, sport and everyday activities
  • Motor vehicle accident rehabilitation

Physiotherapy after a motor vehicle collision

Physiotherapy following a motor vehicle collision may address concerns such as neck or back discomfort, whiplash symptoms, soft tissue injuries, reduced mobility and muscle or joint discomfort after an appropriate assessment.

Care is paced to how you are responding, and our team can explain what information your auto insurer may request. Every recovery is different, so your plan is reviewed and adjusted as you progress.

Modalities that may complement your plan

Your physiotherapist may suggest adding shockwave therapy or laser therapy, or recommend supportive products like bracing, a TENS unit or custom orthotics, if they suit your situation. These are options to talk through rather than automatic additions, and they are always paired with active care.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a doctor’s referral for physiotherapy?

In Ontario you can usually book physiotherapy directly without a referral. Some insurance plans do ask for one before they reimburse treatment, so it is worth checking your policy.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Your insurance information, a list of any medications, relevant reports or imaging if you have them, and comfortable clothing.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your goals and how your body responds. Your physiotherapist will discuss an expected plan after your assessment and review it with you as you progress.

Shockwave Therapy

Acoustic wave therapy that may help with certain persistent tendon and soft tissue concerns.

Laser Therapy

A noninvasive light therapy that can be added to physiotherapy when clinically appropriate.

Sports Therapy

Personalized care focused on movement, recovery, strength, mobility and a safe return to sport or physical activity.

Custom Orthotics

Custom made foot supports based on an assessment of how you stand and move.
