Tennis & Golfer’s Elbow

Tennis and golfer’s elbow are common tendon problems, and most people do not play either sport. Gradual loading and activity changes may help them settle.

Understanding the concern

About Tennis & Golfer’s Elbow concerns

Tennis elbow causes pain on the outside of the elbow, while golfer’s elbow affects the inside. Both relate to the tendons that attach the forearm muscles and often build up with repeated gripping, typing, lifting or tool use.

Tennis elbow physiotherapy usually centres on progressive strengthening of the forearm, adjusting the activities that aggravate it and, where suitable, shockwave therapy or massage therapy to support recovery.

Common experiences

  • Pain when gripping, lifting or turning a door handle
  • Tenderness on the outside or inside of the elbow
