WSIB Physiotherapy in Ontario: How It Works After a Workplace Injury
Hurt at work? Here is how WSIB physiotherapy usually works in Ontario, from reporting your injury to returning to work safely.

A workplace injury can bring pain along with questions about forms, claims and getting back to work. This guide explains how physiotherapy usually fits into a WSIB claim in Ontario, so you know what to expect.
First steps after a workplace injury
- Get first aid or medical care if you need it.
- Tell your employer about the injury as soon as you can.
- Your employer reports the injury to WSIB, and you may also need to report it yourself.
- Keep a note of your WSIB claim number once you have it.
Do you need a doctor’s referral?
In many cases you can see a physiotherapist directly for a workplace injury without a doctor’s referral. Your physiotherapist completes the reports WSIB needs and shares updates on your progress. If you are unsure, call the clinic and we will help you understand the next steps.
